Please help! Is my mp3 player broken?

I own a RCA Opal mp3 player and at the moment, no matter how long I keep it plugged into the USB port connection, it doesn't charge. However, it will upload songs. I know the USB port connection works because I've tested it with my mother's own RCA Opal player. What could be wrong with it??????
